In 2009 and 2010, Derek assisted me with a project in my family home which comprised renovation of the internal space, and construction of an extension to the rear of the property. His services took me through the project from inception to completion... I managed the project myself but with ongoing valuable assistance from Derek throughout the project.... The design drawings had been compiled to a high standard and ensured that there were no ambiguities during the construction stage. The design solutions were unique... [and] produced a design that complimented the existing property.
I was most impressed by Derek’s enthusiasm to get things correct – he contributed significant energy to the project and became personally involved in its development as if it were his own home.
His cost forecasts were reliable, and provided a good benchmark against which individual tender prices could be assessed. This allowed me to ensure that I was achieving value from each of my suppliers and subcontractors.
In all, I completed the project for approximately 30% to 40% less than the prices that were submitted during initial tendering of the project to a single main contractor.

Derek Trenaman worked in Murray O'Laoire Architects from September 2003 to March 2010. Having joined us as a recently qualified architect Derek quickly demonstrated his natural design and organisational skills and become a brilliant and valuable asset to the office. Derek... combines great enthusiasm, talent, energy and skill and is a multi-talented architect and designer. His naturally inquisitive and explorative mind, as well as his resourceful aptitude, allows him to develop individual and unique responses of an exemplar quality. Derek is very versatile and practical and is comfortable hand crafting large scale models, drawings, presentations, paintings or even pottery.
Notwithstanding all of the above Derek also possesses strong management skills and ls a natural leader and organiser. He is a very versatile communicator and is able to deal with all aspects of an architect's engagement with clients, consultants and contractors. His experience on site with Clongriffin Train Station has also shown that he is not just an excellent designer but also a very competent administrator with a good understanding of contract and procedures.

At all times Derek was decisive in his decision making and had a clear and focused view of the requirements of the project and of the Main Contractor. He provided Architectural information of a high standard and managed and controlled the other consultants to ensure that we always had the required information as requested. Derek engaged with and co-ordinated various sub-contractors throughout the project to agree specialist details and spent considerable time signing off sub-contractor specialist drawings.
He possesses a most positive attitude and has an immense desire to assist and contribute as much as possible in a team environment. Throughout the project he demonstrated his excellent written and verbal communication skills and showed great flexibility while working around various site problems to find an acceptable solution, regardless of their cause. At all times I found Derek to be pro-active with problem solving while being very aware of financial restrictions.
In my capacity as the Regional Manager for Pierse Contracting Dublin I work with numerous design team members and Architects on a day to day basis, and it is without hesitation that I recommend and acknowledge Derek as one of the most capable Architects I have worked with, both in terms of his undoubted architectural abilities but also with regard to his many other qualities discussed above...

We were first introduced to Derek Trenaman in December 2004 when he joined the Baldoyle Phase 3 town centre design team as one of the lead architects from Murray O'laoire. This was the start of a working relationship which continued over a period of six years and which culminated in the design and development of the new DART railway station at Baldoyle/Clongriffin and the granting of planning permission for the major town centre development which will form the focal point and central retail and commercial core of the development known as The Coast, Baldoyle.
Throughout that period we came to know Derek and his colleagues as dedicated and hard-working professionals who brought enthusiasm and flair to a project which was both complex and challenging. Derek was a conscientious worker who responded enthusiastically to the diverse needs of the project as dictated by both the client and the Planning Authorities.

As Project Managers on the Clongriffin Train Station Project, KSN Project Management worked with Mr Derek Trenaman... from 2006 to 2010... Throughout this time Derek demonstrated a high degree of technical ability with regard to all Architectural design and installation issues arising on the project... Derek exhibited an excellent working knowledge of these details, which assisted the project greatly given the constraints of building over a live railway. All required details were delivered and resolved by Derek in a timely manner, necessary for what was a complex building project.
Notwithstanding the often adversarial nature of construction, in particular when interfacing with a mainline railway, Derek maintained excellent working relationships with all contributors to the project, whilst insisting on a high standard of installation.
As Client representatives we found Derek at all times to be professional, knowledgeable and obliging when it came to reacting to day to day issues on the Project. We would welcome the opportunity to work with Derek again in the future.

O'Regan Ironworks had the great pleasure of working with Derek Trenaman on the Clongriffm Train Station project from December 2008 - April 2010. His role on the project as architect was exceptional in all aspects of design and creativity.
Derek is an excellent team player, with great communication skills which he demonstrated through out the project with not just our own team but other subcontractors on this job. He was committed to keep the project running smoothly while showing the greatest respect to everyone on site.
Information is critical in any project to keep fabrication moving, we always got an immediate response to any queries we had in relation to design or details required.
We also found Derek exhibits flexibility in relation to site issues where he always found a solution without compromising design or cost which was paramount to him.
We have been in business for over ten years in all aspects of steel work and I would have to say he is one of the best I have worked with. I would highly recommend Derek without hesitation.
